About CORKY

Poodle / Bichon Frise
Age: Adult

CORKY is a 9-year-old, 20-pound Poochon (Poodle/Bichon mix) who was adopted from our rescue six years ago and recently returned due to a change in his family's circumstances. At first, CORKY can be unsure of new people and needs a little time to decide that you are safe. He has a history of snapping or biting when anxious or uncertain, so he needs an experienced adopter who will give him time to adjust, understand his signals, and provide consistent boundaries. The good news is that he doesn't have any teeth so he's harmless! And once CORKY trusts you, he quickly turns into a friendly Velcro dog who loves belly scratches, ear rubs, kisses, and being close to his person. CORKY is a bouncy boy with plenty of energy. He enjoys walks, car rides, exploring, and going on adventures with his person. He walks great on a leash and would love a home where he gets plenty of activity and attention. Although CORKY has lived with other dogs, he does not like dogs getting in his face or making sudden, unexpected movements around him. He would be happiest as the only dog where he can have his person and all the attention to himself. Because of need for a calm, predictable environment, he should not go to a home with children. He chases the cat in his foster home so cats aren't a good idea either. CORKY does very well with potty training and will use a pee pad when needed. A fenced yard would be nice but isn't required as long as he gets regular walks and exercise. He can be a door-darter, so care will need to be taken around open doors and gates. CORKY recently had a dental and had his remaining teeth removed due to dental disease. Don't worry, being toothless hasn't slowed him down one bit! In fact, we noticed a big change in his personality once we had those teeth removed. They were really bothering him and he's much healthier and happier now. He has a good appetite and is a BIG fan of snacks. At bedtime, CORKY sleeps in the big bed snuggled right up against his foster mom. CORKY is neutered, up to date on shots, heartworm negative, has had a ProHeart 12 heartworm prevention shot and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. *To meet or adopt one of our dogs, you must first submit an adoption application for review.
