About Daryl

Daryl is a handsome 7-month-old Great Dane/Catahoula mix with a sweet, affectionate personality and a wonderful temperament. This young guy is already showing what a great companion he can be! He knows sit, is very food motivated, takes treats gently, and walks nicely on leash without pulling. If he does become distracted, Daryl is easily redirected simply by calling his name or making a clicking noise. Daryl loves attention and calmly sought out more affection during his evaluation. He was comfortable with nearly all full-body handling, including having his paws, ears, tail, collar, and body touched. He was slightly unsure about having one of his back feet handled and simply pulled it away after a few seconds. When it came time for hugs, Daryl's response was to give kisses! He also enjoys toys and showed a nice, appropriate level of play without becoming overly aroused. Daryl showed no concerning food or possession guarding behaviors during his evaluation. His food bowl was approached and handled multiple times without an issue, and he allowed a valued possession to be taken from him during all three attempts. This sweet boy also did very well with other animals. During his dog-to-dog testing, Daryl was described as relaxed and polite. He happily engaged in play with a playful dog and was equally comfortable around a calmer dog, earning an assessment of likely all-around dog friendly. His cat test was encouraging too! Daryl remained relaxed, showed only mild interest in the cat, and was easily redirected. His final cat assessment was likely cat friendly. At just 7 months old, Daryl is still a growing puppy who will benefit from continued positive-reinforcement training as he matures. He is affectionate, playful, gentle, social, and eager to learn, with promising interactions with both dogs and cats. Daryl is ready to find a family who will help him grow into those big paws and give him all the love and companionship he deserves!
