About Arlo

Arlo is a polydactyl (all four paws have an extra toe), blue-eyed, seal point Siamese mix who is approximately 1-1.5 years old. He is very sweet but quite shy. Though he loves to curl up on laps to petted (he has quite the motor!), he does not enjoy being picked up. He gets along well with other non-dominant cats, but he is submissive and fearful and would not do well in a home with an aggressive or territorial cat. Because of his fearful nature, he would likely not be a good fit in a home with small or highly energetic children or one with large dogs. I took Arlo in from a neighbor who was planning to drop him at a shelter because he does not like to use a litter box. I had hoped he would adopt the habit by being in a home with other cats and could return to his original home upon learning to use a box but that has not happened. He does use puppy pads and I've found the best way to use them is to put them on a rubber mat with 1' high sides (available on Amazon for $30). I will be VERY picky about who adopts Arlo. I consider him special needs because of his fearful nature and because of his use of puppy pads over litter. He is still young and adopter must be patient and experienced with special needs cats and willing to give him a permanent home. If our family did not already have eight other cats (3 of whom are special needs themselves), we would keep him. I simply have my hands full; I just don't want him to go to a shelter if at all possible. Vet reference is required and non-negotiable.
