About JOURNEE

Adoption Fee: $500
Shih Tzu
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

JOURNEE is a beautiful 2-year-old, 16-pound Shih Tzu who has certainly been on quite a journey to get to where she is today! JOURNEE came into rescue as a pregnant stray. She had been found so severely matted that she needed to be completely shaved, and during that process it was discovered that she was pregnant. A vet visit confirmed that her six babies were quite large for her little body, and about a month later, she had an emergency C-section to safely deliver them. She was a wonderful mama, raised six beautiful babies, and now that they are finding families of their own, it's her turn. We don't know what JOURNEE's life was like before she came to us, but based on her condition and some of her behaviors, we aren't sure she had ever experienced life as a loved indoor pet. She is incredibly sweet and has definitely discovered that she enjoys all the comforts that come with having people of her own! JOURNEE loves one-on-one attention, giving kisses and snuggling with her person. One of her absolute favorite things is having her back and little butt scratched, and don't think you're going to stop before she's ready. She'll keep coming back and asking for more. She's also learning how to play with toys and discovering some of the fun things she may have missed out on before coming into rescue. JOURNEE does fine with most of the other dogs in her foster home, except for one boisterous puppy, but we believe she would be perfectly happy as an only dog as long as she gets plenty of love and attention and isn't routinely left alone for long periods. She has not been tested with children or cats. JOURNEE is still working on housebreaking and making progress. Going outside isn't something she particularly enjoys, and we suspect she may have spent a lot of time outdoors in her previous life. She seems worried that going outside might mean she's going to be left there. She does much better when her person goes outside with her, walks around until she goes potty, and then gives her plenty of praise and positive reinforcement. She's learning that going outside doesn't mean she's going to be left behind. Because we don't know JOURNEE's history, we are looking for a home with a fenced yard for her. She will walk on a leash but isn't particularly well trained on one yet, so someone wanting to take her for regular walks will need to continue working with her. At bedtime, JOURNEE is very happy snuggling with her person and sleeping in the big bed. She's gotten pretty accustomed to the comforts of home, and we can't blame her one bit! JOURNEE is spayed, up to date on shots, heartworm negative, has had a ProHeart 12 heartworm prevention shot and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. *To meet or adopt one of our dogs, you must first submit an adoption application for review.
