Traeger is going to be an amazing dog! He's smart and loyal. Having exhausted the search for a missing family, Traeger is ready to move on to the next phase of his life. See below for all the information we have on him. Name: Traeger Breed: Black Mouth Cur mix Age: About 8 months Gender: Male Size/weight: About 24' tall & 63# Vaccinations UTD? Rabies 9/9/26 H/W Test: Negative 9/9/26 Spayed/neutered: Yes 9/9/26 Behavior w/ other dogs: Good. Would like a friend to play with! Loves to run the deer but stops at the property line and returns once the deer are out of the yard. Did not even have to teach him that. He will chase cats but he's not trying to hurt them. Health: Excellent. Energetic. No fleas or ticks. Traeger showed up on our property a few weeks ago. All of our area shelters are full of dogs rescued from a hoarding situation. Unfortunately, I cannot keep him. I have two 90 year old disabled parents living with me. They are both in poor health and on walkers. Mom has dementia and remember that a young energetic large pup is dangerous in her frail condition. He's been neutered, vetted, and HW tested (negative) in hopes of making him more appealing to a rescue and potential forever family. I am also willing to transport him to anywhere within about 500 miles of Kingsport, Tennessee where we live. I just want him to have every chance possible. Here's his story. At least as much as we have seen in the two or three weeks we have had him��%BD'��%BD| We are calling him Traeger. He's about 10 months old. He's 63 lbs and about 24' tall. He has the longest tail I have ever seen on a dog. When not wagging, which is all the time, it falls about an inch off the floor. But has a nice hairy padding so no 'happy tail' issues. He is not chipped. We have posted him on Pawboost, Nextdoor, Facebook etc. No one seems to be looking for him. A couple of the rescues suggested he would be more attractive to rescues and potential forever families if he were neutered, HW free and had his rabies shots. So, he was fixed, had a HW test (negative), got a one year rabies vaccination and started flea meds Sept 9th. He is a great dog! He's a quick learner, eager to please, reacts well to praise or the electronic collar (although it took a high setting of 60 out of 100 to get his attention in the beginning but he now reacts to just a beep). He wants to be around people and would really like to be a house dog. He's been sleeping in the garage and after the first two nights, he has had NO accidents. So I think he is already house trained��%BD��%BD%A4z��%BD��%BD%8F��%BD. He just lays next to my dad for hours out on the porch. He stays on the porch or in the garage without any issues once he understood those were his assigned places. He walks and does his business well on a leash without pulling. He was crate trained in just one day. Once in, he lays down and waits patiently. Good with family and children (haven't seen him with little ones but with 11 and up he's been great!). With one stranger he barked but was fine with her 12 year old. (They have 5 dogs so he may have been overwhelmed by her smells but she didn't stay long enough to know if he would have warmed up to her). However, he was great with vet techs at his first time vet visit and they said he was well mannered during his neuter clinic visit. He does not mind the cats but our cats don't like his energy. So, they run and he chases but he doesn't seem to want to hurt them. If they'd stay still, they might get stepped on but I don't see any true aggression toward them. We are working on not chasing cats with the electric collar now. He LOVES people! After five days, he already knew his name, come, sit, down, no, stop and stay (although stay is still for a very short period). As long as the shock collar is on, like most dogs, he's a perfect angel. And he's no longer jumping every time he sees us. He just leans against me now or he circles at my feet trying to get the best pets. He appreciates a tummy rub too. He's been staying in the garage at night. He hates it but still goes right in. His only real idiosyncrasy is that he doesn't want to eat out of a bowl or around the other dogs. I suspect he has encountered a dog with food aggression. He, however, does not seem to have any himself. He allows me to take food from his bowl and even hand feed him. He is eating out of a cake pan. So low sides. He will make someone a GREAT companion! Also, I can transport him (at my expense) to within about 500 miles of Kingsport, TN.
