About Hatfield

Meet Hatfield !! This tiny sweetheart and his brother, McCoy (posted separately) were left in the shelter by their owner. They weren't in the best shape and were both very shy and scared. They are both really coming out of their shells and enjoying life now!! ***They will need to go to SEPARATE HOMES*** Hatfield is an approx 1 year old male mix breed. He kinda looks like a pug, a chi and a jack russell mixed together, but we have no idea what all is mixed in. He weighs 9 pounds and is full grown. He will be neutered, up to date on vaccines and microchipped as part of his adoption. He is thankfully heartworm negative. This poor guy was so scared and shut down at the shelter. He was understandably terrified. When we brought him into a foster home he finally relaxed. He does take just a little time to adjust to new people to make sure that they are safe but after that, he is your best friend. He quickly chose the 12 year old boy in the home as his ride or die bestie. He will disregard everything and everyone to go hang out in his room and just adores him. Hatfield is doing fairly well with his house manners so far. He is great about going in his crate and not being vocal. He is not super familiar with the leash yet. He's not terrible, but he gets a little unsure sometimes. We think with just a little more practice he's going to figure it out quickly. He does fine on car rides and does not get sick. He is decent about potty training if you take him out often, he does still have accidents. He does mark his territory indoors and wears a belly band to help with that. His upcoming neuter will hopefully resolve that issue. He does well with other dogs but is very nervous about new dogs at first. He has been around all sizes of dogs since coming into the rescue from tiny to giant. He is initially intimidated but gets past it after a few days. He would do best with a dog that isn't super hyper or in his face. His previous family indicated he lived with cats in their home and was fine with them but we have not had him around any to verify that. Hartfield has done very well around all the kids he's met so far. He really seems to love kids. He would just need to be with kids that are respectful and don't treat him like a toy. A kid that can be calm and give him space to feel safe first is required but after that he becomes excellent with children. He has a lower energy level so far, but he is steadily becoming more playful as he gets more settled and comfortable. He's already starting to open up and play at times and has little frisky moments. He loves to chase a thrown ball and will dance around with you when you get him excited. His energy needs are not at all hard to meet currently. He is mostly relaxed and happy to have a place near you to hang out. Hatfield has shown no issues sharing treats, toys or food with other people. He loves to cuddle in bed and on the couch. He always has lots of kisses to give. Very good about being left out in the house when you are gone; he has not been destructive at all. Overall this little guy is a great companion. He is learning the world is not so scary and starting to really enjoy himself. He would fit in to a lot of different home settings as long as someone is willing to give him some time to feel safe.
