About Ruby

Adoption Fee: $150
Australian Cattle Dog / Border Collie
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

Ruby is a very intelligent, fit and healthy female Australian Cattle Dog mix (65% ACD, 15% Border Collie, 10% Australian Kelpie and 10% Vizsla (maybe)). She weighs 30 lbs, runs extremely fast, is agile and has quick reflexes. She is very loyal and wants to be with me 24/7 - on walks, in the house, in the car and sleeping at night. She draws great compliments from neighbors who are impressed with her smarts, friendliness and good looks. She is people friendly with adults and children. She has a remarkable memory and ability to comprehend what is going. She has 'trained' 7 different dog owners into giving her treats when we are on walks. She is friendly with most dogs but there are dogs she does not like and will bark at them or their house as she remembers where they live. She is cat friendly and has gotten along with our house cat for 6 years. She was a rescue dog that I adopted when she was about 1 year and 9 months. She was given up by her previous owner due to her 10 year old Border Collie attacking Ruby due to Ruby's irrepressible energy. Her negatives: very territorial and barks at anyone coming to the house even family members and friends - once inside after she checks them out she stops - she has never bitten anyone who has come to the house, knows the 4 major delivery trucks (USPS, UPS, FEDEX and PRIME) and will spot them a block away and bark at them until they pass; any jogger or fast moving person coming up from behind quickly, she will pivot in an instant and nip at the back of their leg; fast moving electric bikes and roller boards speeding from behind will set her off. My problem: we live in a very busy neighborhood in San Francisco. Too many ongoing situations that she is reacts to. She needs a quieter rural home where she has space to roam - away from the urban distractions. Until last year, I had a home in rural Snohomish County, Washington, where we spent 7 months of the year - spring through fall. She loved living there and was great on long walks where she constantly scanned for deer, rabbits, squirrels, coyotes and an occasional bobcat. She needs a loving home with a special person she can trust, bond with and be their forever best friend. An active life style is really important as she loves doing different things.
