About Miso

PLEASE APPLY ON ShibaSaviors.org and follow us on Facebook for updates on our dogs! Miso is an estimated 2-3-year-old, 35-pound female Spitz mix with Embark DNA results pending. We suspect there may be some Husky and Shiba Inu in the mix, but whatever her DNA says, one thing is already certain: this girl is an absolute love bug. Miso LOVES people. All people. Any people. She gets genuinely excited when someone wants to love on her, but not in an overwhelming, bouncing-off-the-walls kind of way. It is more of an adorable 'YAY! YOU LOVE ME!' celebration. She has been known to launch herself from across the room and land right beside you, already in perfect cuddle position. She loves kisses, belly rubs, snuggling, and curling up beside her people. For as affectionate as she is, Miso does not need constant attention. She is perfectly happy relaxing in the room with you while you work, watch TV, game, or go about your day. What she really seems to want is companionship. She just wants to be where her people are. Miso is house trained and crate trained, walks extremely well on a leash, and already knows 'sit' and 'paw.' She will be spayed before adoption. We are still evaluating her with other animals. She has been curious or seemingly unaffected by dogs she encounters on walks and at the vet and has not shown leash reactivity. Our resident pack has been a little intimidating for her, however, so she is currently enjoying her own room while she settles in. Because we have only had her for about a week, we are not yet comfortable predicting what type of canine housemate, if any, would be best for her. Miso does have a difficult time being alone right now. She may cry or howl when left by herself and can chew or become destructive if given free rein while unsupervised, so we strongly recommend a durable crate. Her vocalizing is not terribly loud, but apartment living with thin walls may not be ideal unless her adopter is home much of the time. Since she is still very new to rescue, we are continuing to evaluate how much of this is related to the enormous transition she has just experienced. We truly do not know how this girl ended up without a family. She is funny, gentle, incredibly affectionate, and one of the most naturally loving dogs we have ever met. Miso is a little ray of sunshine looking for someone who wants a dog beside them, curled against them, following them through life and very enthusiastically accepting all available kisses.
