About Gertie-SOS-PLEASE HELP

EDITING: Gertie was euthanized due to lack of space on Sept. 13th, 2026. Leaving post on, since don't yet have the heart to delete. The shelter is critically over-capacity, meaning dogs are being euthanized due to lack of space!!! Crapshoot which dogs are chosen. Mastiffs, which Gertie is on, along with other large breeds are at increased risk, especially since Gertie is rescue only with a foster parent, meaning cannot be adopted through Chicago Animal Care and Control. Only way out is with a foster parent!!! PLEASE apply to a rescue org., can help find one, if have experience with the breed, doggies who may be afraid, need a patient, quiet home to decompress, feel safe, ... In only video available, which is a leash test with another doggie at the shelter, Gertie seems fearful and timid. If a rescue org. approves the application, it will be able to schedule meeting Gertie at the shelter and if have a resident dog, also meet. PLEASE email to try to save Gertie from a possible tragic ending!!!
