About Matteo

Meet Matteo !! This little guy is great. We just adore him. He is a great mix of super excited and fun and then super cuddly couch buddy. He is the best of both worlds and already great about his training. Matteo is an approx. 1 year old male. He weighs approximately 10 pounds and is full grown. We are unsure of his exact breed but think he may be a Shiba and Chi mix. He has the faint face coloration of a shiba and has a lot of similarities but we dont know for sure. He will be neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines as part of his adoption. He is thankfully heartworm negative and on monthly preventions. This guy had a bit of a meltdown when he first entered the shelter due to fear but since the moment we left the shelter with him he has been the sweetest boy. He is very very smart, eager to please and very loving. Matteo is doing so well with his house manners. He was great on car rides. He is not bad about leash walking but isnt prefect. He is crate trained and has no trouble being crated throughout a full work day. He can also sleep in his crate or in bed with you. He has not had any potty accidents so far. He keeps his crate clean and has not been marking his territory inside at all. He is a very smart boy and already knows sit, crate or kennel and lay down. He is learning to sit in the crate and wait when its time to go out instead of jumping at the door with excitement. He has made major progress with that in just one day of being taught. He really soaks up anything you teach him. He currently has a medium energy level. He is VERY excited to see you when you get home and gets all hyped up. He will play and run around the yard with you or other dogs. He also has a very chill cuddly side. If you go sit or lay down anywhere he is right there with you and will relax and go to sleep. He does need some exercise but its not much. If he gets to run and play for 10 mins a few times a day he is able to relax the rest of the time. Matteo has gotten along with every dog he's met so far. He has been fine with big, medium and small dogs. He has never met cats so we are not sure how he would do. He is not fostered with kids but we think he would do great with kids. He does however do a lot of jumping up on people when he is first excited. This may scare smaller kids. He is learning not to jump but often forgets in his initial excitement to see you. He has not had any trouble sharing food, treats or toys with humans or other dogs. He also takes treats gently. He is a super sweet, loving and fun guy. He has recently started to fetch and he is so good at it. He will bring it right back to you and drop it at your feet. Matteo does have some trouble with being restrained by people he does not know. He was muzzled at the vet due to this. His foster mom was able to clip his nails within two days of him arriving so he is not bad or mean about things he is just afraid. With a gentle approach he does very well. He has not had any issues being picked up or handled in his foster home. We can even roughhouse with him etc without issues. Overall this guy has so much potential. He is really smart and learning so well. He is a great smaller size with a big guy personality. He is a great mix of energetic when you want to play and lazy cuddle bug when its time to relax. He has also been a quiet dog and does not do much barking at all. Someone is going to be so lucky to bring this happy, fun and intelligent boy into their family. Vet and home checks required. Located in Hampton VA.
