About Pek

This is Pek, he is 3 years old. Pek was brought to me by a lady whose husband was unexpectedly deported. Pek is the word for 'dog' in Mayan language. He is a very sweet boy and loves the affection, but as true to the Akita breed, he is majorly dominant. I have 3 akitas of my own, so integrating him into our pack at 3 years old, is not a task that my husband and I are able to do. I took Pek so that he didnt end up getting euthanized due to his dominace and inability to live with another dog. He does not 'go after' other dogs, being on a leash in the same room does not cause him excitement. He does not pull toward other dogs or any of that. It is soley upon meeting face to face or when he goes immediately and puts his head over another dogs shoulders, trying to challenge the dominace, which can start a fight. He had one of our chickens get into the fenced area he was in and he did not go after the chicken. He actually did not care at all about the chicken. He's just an Akita that lost his owners due to no fault of his own. Used to being the only animal in the house. He needs a new human that loves him and wants to spoil him. Potty trained. He is not a barker when strangers come over like my other akitas are. But he does howl when he's alone (which breaks my heart). Akitas are a very dominate breed. His new owners need to be very strong minded, fearless, & assertive so that he respects you as his leader. Must have knowledge of this breed and an experienced dog owner.
