Mira is a beautiful, intelligent, highly trained 4%BD%BD-year-old Belgian Malinois looking for a very specific forever home. She is approximately 65 lbs, spayed, microchipped, fully vaccinated, and currently takes medication for allergies and anxiety. Mira is an incredibly smart and athletic dog who thrives when she has a job, structure, and a strong relationship with her person. She knows an extensive list of commands and has had significant training. She has excellent obedience, recall, place work, distance commands, directional work, and loves learning new things. She enjoys walks, running, biking, playing frisbee, training, and being active with her person. At home, she is also capable of settling down and relaxing with her family. She is affectionate and deeply bonded to her people. In the right environment, Mira is an amazing companion who wants nothing more than to be with her person and participate in their life. She travels well, is house-trained, and has successfully lived with cats. Mira does, however, have significant behavioral limitations that make finding the RIGHT home extremely important. She needs to be the ONLY DOG in the household. She is not a dog-park, dog-daycare, or dog-social dog and can be highly reactive/aggressive toward other dogs. Her adopter will need to be comfortable managing her carefully in public and preventing interactions with unfamiliar dogs. Mira also needs an ADULT-ONLY home with no children and no regular child visitors. She has shown concerning behavior around children, and because of her strength and history, we will not place her in a home where children are present or regularly visiting. Mira has also had a bite incident involving an adult. We want to be completely transparent about this because her future home needs to understand and be prepared for her behavioral history. She is not a dog who should be handled casually or placed with someone inexperienced simply because she is beautiful, smart, or well-trained. She needs someone who understands canine behavior, respects her boundaries, and is willing to continue thoughtful management and training. She can also be sensitive about handling and is currently muzzled for veterinary care. Her adopter will need to work with her at her pace and be proactive about safety and veterinary handling. We believe Mira's ideal home is with an experienced adult who understands Belgian Malinois, enjoys training and an active lifestyle, has no other dogs or children, and is looking for a devoted one-on-one companion rather than a social family dog. Someone who wants a dog to hike, run, train, explore, and work with-and who understands that management and structure are part of loving Mira responsibly. This is a difficult decision for our family, and we are not looking to place Mira quickly with just anyone. We are looking for the person who is genuinely the right fit for her. Mira has so much to offer the right person. She is exceptionally intelligent, athletic, loyal, trained, affectionate, and eager to engage with her human. We hope to find someone who can appreciate all of those qualities while also understanding and respecting her limitations. Because of Mira's history and needs, potential adopters will be carefully screened and must be willing to have an honest conversation about her behavior and management requirements before adoption.
