About Durango

We're heartbroken to even be writing this, because Durango is an amazing dog. We brought him home from his breeder while grieving another dog we'd lost to cancer far too young. It's been several months now, and we haven't been able to reach his breeder since, likely because she was facing stage four cancer herself. We've thought about this a lot. Durango needs more one-on-one attention than we can give him right now or in the foreseeable future, especially with a baby in the house. We also have an older female dog who is very set in her ways and has grown reclusive since he arrived. It doesn't feel fair to her, and we find ourselves only ever able to work with one dog at a time. It truly breaks us to make this decision. About Durango: He's incredibly well socialized and has so much potential to be the bestest boy. He learns remarkably quickly. We have copies of his papers and heritage, and we were told he's just a few points shy of becoming a champion in his breed. How far he's come: Eating: He used to inhale any food he could get to without waiting. He now uses a slow-feeder bowl and will wait for the command before eating. Commands: He's learned to sit (he didn't know how before) and can 'wait' with some struggle and reminding, but he does it. Car rides: He's comfortable in the car now, though he'll only ride in the back/trunk area. Other seats scare him. What he's still working on: Impulse control and recall, which are hardest around other dogs. He does great on walks otherwise. He's currently a humper, we believe this will improve once he's neutered. When he gets overstimulated around other dogs, he'll nip at our older female. He's also relentless about play and will pester her until she reacts. A lot of this comes down to his age and hormones, but it isn't fair to her. He trains so quickly and has so much love to give! He just needs someone who can pour the one-on-one time into him that he deserves. Asking price is simply what we paid for him.
