This is Gracie. I am seeking a new home for this beautiful girl. The long story short is that she needs more stability and physical space that I am not able to give her. I know that at the end of the day I must do right by her, and the changes I need to make for my life this next year will not allow me to be able to give that to her. She is microchipped and has all her updated shots. Gracie is going to be 6 this month (September). She is 50% great pyrenees and 50% black and tan coonhound. She is a fairly high energy girl, but this doesn't seem to be an issue with a walk/hike a day or if she has access to enough outdoor space. Gracie prefers to spend her time outside if it is not too hot out. She does love affection despite being an outdoor girly. With that being said, Gracie does not seem to be a runner per say, but when she has gotten loose, she like to explore the neighborhood. I would recommend that she goes with someone with a fenced in yard if possible or to someone who has the time to train her and educate her about what her boundaries are. She would also do best with someone who has the time to let her out throughout the day so that she gets her exercise. This seems to keep any attention seeking behaviors at bay. However, if it is necessary, she can be home alone 7-9 hours. She has never had an accident indoors. She also loves to swim so a pool/pond/lake would be on her wish list :) I have lived with her in an urban setting and this is not something she prefers and because of that, I would strongly prefer she goes somewhere where she can have outdoor space and preferably be in a home rather than an apartment. Many of the typical behaviors and characteristics you see in a coonhound and pyrenees are things she displays, such as some resource guarding, making sure other animals aren't in 'her' yard, etc. Gracie has come a long way behaviorally, as she was originally a shelter dog. She knows all the basic commands. She gets along with cats, and if introduced appropriately, gets along with other dogs as well. The resource guarding of food will need to be a factor when considering adopting her with other animals. She also will resource guard sticks or toys. My family and I have worked hard with her on this behavior with the cat and with my grandma's dog, however, it will need to continue to be monitored. Please reach out to me if you have any other questions. I am happy to do a phone call or do a meet and greet.
