About Bambi

BAMBI NEEDS A SECOND CHANCE Some dogs come into the shelter needing a home. Bambi came to us needing to be saved. Bambi originally arrived as a stray in May 2025 after being found lying in a ditch. She was emaciated and covered in chemical burns. Her body told the story of just how much she had already endured, and the road ahead of her was not an easy one. But Bambi fought. With months of medical care, patience, good food, and a whole lot of love from her shelter family, she healed. Some of the damage was permanent-the spots across her back where the burns were most severe will never grow hair again. Those scars are simply part of Bambi now. They are a reminder of where she came from, but they have never defined the dog she became. In November 2025, after six long months, the day everyone had hoped for finally came: Bambi was adopted. ?? We thought her shelter story was over. Unfortunately, through absolutely no fault of Bambi's, her adopters separated and she no longer had a home. Now, after everything this girl has already overcome, Bambi is back with the shelter staff and volunteers who love her-and we are PRAYING that someone will give her another chance. And if you're wondering what kind of dog Bambi is after everything life has thrown at her, her updated temperament evaluation says a lot. Bambi is a 3-year-old female Pit Bull mix who greeted her evaluator at the kennel with a loose, social body. During her sociability testing, she calmly asked for more interaction both times she was petted. She allowed a full teeth examination twice without struggling and received the best possible response score throughout her entire handling evaluation-including her paws, toes, ears, tail, collar, body and hugs. The evaluator's note was simple: 'totally fine!' Considering what happened to Bambi before she first arrived at the shelter, seeing her continue to place that kind of trust in people is incredibly special. Bambi LOVES toys and showed a nice level of play during her evaluation. Even when she was excited, she remained gentle and aware of where the evaluator's hands were. She does, however, value her special possessions/food. This behavior is VERY NORMAL when an animal has been starved/emaciated. Her future family should respect her space while she's eating and allow her to enjoy meals undisturbed. This doesn't make Bambi a bad dog-it simply tells us what she needs from her people. Give this girl her space around food and prized possessions, and don't make her feel like she has to defend them. And Bambi LOVES other dogs! She is an absolute social butterfly with other dogs!!! Even if the other dog isn't so friendly or welcoming to her, she keeps her loving energy high and tries her best to show them that she means no harm. Bambi previously was in a foster home with cats and chased them. Because of that history, we recommend that she not be placed in a home with cats. Bambi already knows sit, recognizes and responds to her name, and demonstrated watch/focus and off/get during her evaluation. She's treat motivated, takes treats gently, and doesn't need to be reminded to be gentle. She does pull on leash, particularly when she sees people, dogs, insects, or squirrels, but she is easily redirected using her name and leash guidance. Her evaluator noted that she does better walking on a harness. Bambi has already proven how hard she's willing to fight for her life. This time, we're hoping she doesn't have to fight for a home.
