Sophie is an 8-year-old spayed female Pit Bull mix with a heart of gold and a personality that proves age is just a number. This sweet, affectionate girl has spent an entire year waiting at the shelter for someone to give her the forever home she deserves. Despite the time she's waited, Sophie greets every day with a wagging tail, a happy smile, and hope that her family is still out there. One of Sophie's greatest qualities is her incredible love for people-especially children. She has spent the past 10 months in a foster home where she has become an adored member of the family. She absolutely loves kids and has earned the nickname of a true 'nanny dog.' Every night, Sophie happily curls up and sleeps in the little boy's room, content just being close to him. She is gentle, patient, affectionate, and thrives on being part of a loving family. Sophie is wonderfully easy to live with. She is extremely potty-trained, has excellent house manners, and is an easy dog to handle in just about every situation. During her behavioral evaluation, she accepted full-body handling with ease, allowing her paws, ears, tail, collar, and body to be touched without any concern. However, she does not care to have her nails trimmed! She would rather you do not do that-- she will try her best to get away from you! She loves being petted and will happily lean into you for more affection whenever she gets the chance. She also has excellent manners around food and valued items. Sophie showed no signs of food or resource guarding, remaining relaxed and comfortable while people interacted with her food bowl and belongings. Her calm, trusting nature makes her a joy to have around. Don't let her age fool you-Sophie still has plenty of playful energy! She absolutely loves other dogs and enjoys running, playing, and making canine friends. She has a wonderfully submissive personality and responds appropriately when another dog corrects her, making her an excellent companion for many playful dogs. Because of her history, Sophie should not live with cats. She would be happiest in a cat-free home where she can safely enjoy life with her people and, if desired, another friendly dog. More than anything, Sophie simply wants to be loved. She is happiest when she's beside her family, soaking up affection, lounging with the kids, or enjoying a relaxing evening after a day of play.
