Icarus is a 2-year-old neutered Mastiff mix who came to us as a stray. He is a big, playful guy who loves people, treats, and especially TOYS! Once the toys come out, Icarus is ready for a good time and will even put his paws on you trying to convince you to keep playing! Icarus already knows sit, is food motivated, and takes treats gently. He's pretty good on leash and responds well to redirection. During his temperament evaluation, he was calm and social when approached in his kennel and did wonderfully with full-body handling. He was comfortable having his paws, ears, tail, collar and body handled and seemed to think most of the evaluation was just another opportunity to play! Another great thing about Icarus is that he showed no resource guarding with either food or valued possessions. His evaluator was even able to use a real hand around his food and take a valued item directly from him without an issue. When it comes to other dogs, Icarus's playmate matters. He became uncomfortable when paired with a very energetic female dog and clearly communicated that he wasn't enjoying her play style. However, when introduced to two other dogs, Tank and Ceres, he did fantastic! He played, bounced around, and was very social with both, showing no uncomfortable or aggressive behaviors. Based on his evaluation, Icarus may enjoy canine friends who are a better match for his personality and play style, so a meet-and-greet with any potential dog sibling would be important. Cats, however, are not recommended for Icarus. During his cat evaluation, he became very focused on the cat and was difficult to redirect, so a feline-free home will be the best choice for him. Overall, Icarus is a fun, playful, people-friendly boy with a big personality to match his big-dog looks. He'd love a family who will give him plenty of playtime, continue working on his training, and let him finally experience what it's like to have a home of his own. If you're looking for a goofy, toy-loving companion who's always ready to play, come meet Icarus! https://www.oconeecountyga.gov/forms.aspx?FID=80
