Great Dane mix

LULU LOST HER PERSON. NOW SHE NEEDS SOMEONE TO HELP PUT HER WORLD BACK TOGETHER. Lulu is a 2.5-year-old, 86-pound Great Dane mix who never expected to find herself at a shelter. Lulu was deeply loved. She spent all day, every day with her owner-her person, her routine, her whole world. Sadly, her beloved owner passed away. Lulu stayed with her human brother for a couple of weeks, but he ultimately had to make the heartbreaking decision to surrender her to Oconee County Animal Services, hoping we could give Lulu the best possible second chance at finding another forever home. And now Lulu is trying to understand why everything she knew suddenly disappeared. Despite everything, she is an incredibly sweet girl who wants nothing more than to be close to people. She is VERY potty trained-she'll whine at the door when she needs to go, and if you don't notice, she'll come find you, stare directly into your soul, and whine until you get the message. She knows sit, lay, shake, stay, and off, and she has absolutely NO food or resource guarding. She hasn't quite figured out toys yet, but she definitely knows how to love her humans. When Lulu gets excited, all 86 pounds of her may come bouncing toward you, occasionally resulting in an accidental 'face pop.' She just hasn't realized she's a BIG girl! Her previous family reported that Lulu is dog friendly, although right now at the shelter she doesn't seem very interested in other dogs. We think she may simply be overwhelmed. She lost the person she spent every day with, lost her home, and suddenly landed in an unfamiliar environment. Right now, Lulu is far more concerned with being close to PEOPLE. She deserves time to decompress before we decide how she truly feels about canine friends. Lulu had reportedly never lived with cats, so we introduced her to our office cat. Her reaction? Basically... 'What cat?' We even encouraged the cat to meow to get her attention. Lulu would glance over and immediately go back to looking out the window. She was completely unbothered and showed no concerning interest. What Lulu needs most now is someone willing to become her person again. She didn't end up at the shelter because she wasn't loved. She ended up here because the person who loved her could no longer be here. Lulu has already lost her person, her routine, and the only life she knew. We don't want her to lose hope, too. Please help us find this beautiful girl the second chance her family wanted for her.
