About 'MOCHI' A.K.A. ' TOOZ'

'TOOZ' - A RARE BRINDLE YOUNGER CHOW BOY IN NEED OF A SAVVY HOME, OR FOSTER AND RESCUE ASAP- FRIENDLY BUT SHY - NEEDS PLACEMENT ASAP/ approved for homes with female dogs. This dear boy was said to be found as a stray and walked into the shelter. Sadly, his owner never came, or the finder was his owner; either way, he seems to have been dumped. We have named this handsome boy Mochi (although shelter just named him Tooz) and said he weighs 59 lbs and has estimates him to be only 2 years old. The shelter told us initially he 'comes off friendly but gets tense and growls when restrained, vaccinated behind fence'. But as most chows warm up in time, he did! A behavior assessment was just done 8/27 and he did well, was easy to leash, far more relaxed, and thankfully 'is available for public adoption pending neutered' surgery. Further notes are below, and we can also give you the complete copy upon request. The shelter also said however he could be put on a 72 hour warning of pending euthanasia soon - and told us to watch for it, as they are very full. So we know he doesn't have long. The recent behavior assessment states, he, 'was easy to leash/remove from the kennel. Tooz was taken to the catch pen and was easy to collar/leash soliciting petting during the process. Tooz greeted the dogs at the barrier nicely and was allowed into the play yard. Tooz displayed a relaxed body, open mouth pant, natural ear set, relaxed tail wag, and soft eyes. Tooz exchanged greetings but one of the males challenged Tooz. The other dog lunged/bit/latched onto Tooz's fur. He was difficult to remove/steer from Tooz and once separated was removed from the yard. Tooz gave a good shake off and continued to socialize nicely. Tooz appeared to become tense around some of the male dogs and was easy to steer. A few times Tooz started a very minor scuffle and was easy to steer. Tooz was shifted to the adjacent yard with a playful female dog. They interacted/socialized nicely but did not play. Tooz continued to explore and socialize with the other dog nicely and Tooz was able to co-exist. Tooz appeared to prefer female dogs and displayed no play style at this time. See additional assessment for placement recommendations. PLAYGROUP: Tooz was in the play yard prior to the assessment and was given time to decompress. Tooz displayed a relaxed body, open mouth pant, loose tail wag, natural ear set, and soft eyes. Tooz approached the handler soliciting petting from them with a loose wiggly demeanor. The handler was able to examine Tooz's ears, mouth, abdomen, back, lower extremities, and tail with ease. Tooz maintained a loose wiggly demeanor throughout the assessment and continued to solicit petting afterward. Tooz could benefit from basic manners training. Tooz is ok for public adoption medium energy level female dogs only required.'
