Name: Lucy Age: Approx. 10 years Breed: Possible Havanese Mix, 10.5 pounds Sex: Female (spayed) Location: New Haven County, Connecticut Owner recently rescued Lucy but is unable to keep her because of a medical condition. Vet Info: Lucy is both blind and deaf but there is a possibility that she might see some shadows. She is not microchipped. Lucy is current with her vaccinations and HW- and she also has been dewormed (was a stray). She has cataracts in both eyes but has not seen a veterinary ophthalmologist. Lucy is also on heartworm prevention. Lucy has recently started taking Prozac. Dog Info: Lucy is an indoor dog with the run of the house. She is housebroken and leash trained as well as crate trained. Although she was found as a stray, she obviously had lived in a home at one time. Lucy is a nervous and shy girl but is improving with time. She has been with the owner for five weeks. Lucy will growl and bark at some strangers if they come too close. Owner would give people treats to give to her, most of the time she would take them nicely but a couple times she snapped. Owner believes that she is frightened because she is blind and deaf. It may also just be a result of being a stray for some length of time. Owner and brother handle her without aggression. Lucy loves going in the car, she also did well at the groomer. Owner feels that Lucy would do well with someone with experience with blind and deaf dogs. Lucy is a 'real sweetheart with me and I love the bond we have'. Owner lives alone and has no other pets. Lucy is currently staying with a friend of the owner (because of owner's medical condition) and there is an older Shih Tzu in the home. There have been no issues. The friend also has 3 children - ages 13, 10 and 7. The children are able to pet her and take her on walks without issue. They tap their foot on the floor to signal her to come and this helps make her much more comfortable around other people.
