This sweet senior boy arrived neutered and has been friendly, gentle, and easy to handle. Smiley appears to be potty trained and absolutely loves to play with toys. He does tend to shred stuffed toys, but give him a ball - especially a jumbo one - and he is completely content. He will happily hold his ball in his mouth while lying in the sun, enjoying the grass and his toy. It is easy to see the gentle, simple joys this boy appreciates. Smiley has also shown that he is interested but respectful of other dogs. He did well meeting a female Doberman Pinscher, although he was a little rude during his introduction. When she gave him an air snap to correct his behavior, Smiley took the correction well and gave her space afterward. He even sweetly licked a Chihuahua through the fence. Unfortunately, he has had a persistent cough for more than four weeks and has not improved despite multiple courses of antibiotics and cough medication. This gentle senior boy needs someone willing to look beyond his age and provide the medical attention he urgently requires. He has already shown us what a loving, easygoing dog he can be. He loves his people, enjoys his toys, and finds happiness simply lying in the grass with a ball in his mouth. Per veterinary recommendation, Smiley must exit by 5:00 PM on 09/29/2026.
