Name: Oreo Age: DOB December 2019 Breed: Maltese/Poodle Mix, 13 pounds Sex: Male (neutered) Location: San Bernardino County, California Bright little Oreo needs the perfect home where he will have the companionship that he craves. Vet Info: Oreo has no eyes. He developed two separate ulcers. Left eye ulcer healed but developed a cataract. Eye removed 2022. Right eye ulcer was pushing the eye forward. Eye removed 2024. No health issues otherwise. Oreo is current with his vaccinations but does not have a recent heartworm test. Oreo is not microchipped. Dog Info: Oreo loves to be outside just as much as he enjoys being inside with his people. His family situation has changed drastically and he has gone from having someone home all the time to having long periods of time where he is alone. When alone he is crated for his safety. Oreo is housebroken but now has accidents because he is alone for longer periods of time than his tiny bladder can handle. He will return to being the perfect boy when his situation changes. Oreo is leash trained and he knows a few commands, number one is treat, of course! Family brought home a German Shepherd after Oreo was already in the home, they had a trainer come in to train both dogs. While Oreo knows to sit or stay, he also chooses not to when he doesn't feel like listening. He is good with men, women and children of all ages. He is generally good with male and female dogs but right now he has some issues with the GSD startling him and he will act negatively. For that reason, Oreo must be crated when home alone. The only aggression that he ever shows is with his much larger brother, they have had an alpha battle and now that Oreo is blind, will go into defensive mode around the GSD. There is no malice on the part of the GSD, he doesn't realize that he is so big, he is a small playful dog trapped in a 120 pound body. Oreo adapts wonderfully to new situations and surroundings. He recently had to stay with family members while construction was going on and owners had to stay in a hotel for 6 months! He had a wonderful time, there were 5 more dogs to play with and someone to be home with him most of the time. This is what led owners to deciding that what they were able to give him now, just isn't enough. Oreo thrives with companionship, attention and love. Oreo is 'smart, curious, affectionate, playful and loves to cuddle.' Oreo does great at the groomer. Oreo's owner describes his ideal home as one 'where there is someone home a large portion of the day. Someone that is patient and understands that a blind dog can absolutely have a wonderful life.' A secured fence would be wonderful and his person/people would enjoy having a little shadow. Oreo's owners are more interested in Oreo having the perfect match rather than a quick one. He is very much loved and the owners will only consider a better life for him. **Owner Surrender Disclaimer: These are blind and visually impaired dogs who are living in homes, but their owners can no longer keep them.
