Meet Scout, a 7 years old purebred Australian Shepherd who weighs 55 pounds. (birthdate 12/19/19) Scout is a smart and fun guy, just like you would expect of this breed. For those who know the breed, this is also a fantastic age where he has plenty of energy but is beyond the teenage years. Scout knows: Sit, stay, place, come, leave it, 'chin' (will rest chin in outstretched hand). He eats from a slow feeder and, if you ask him to find it, he will find it wherever it is in the house. He also knows a few tricks: roll over and shake hands. Scout is house and crate trained. He is extremely intelligent and takes very well to positive reinforcement-based training - he learns new commands and tricks within a session or two. Scout is wonderful with adults and older kids. Babies make him nervous, so he prefers a home without babies or toddlers. As for the vet? Not Scout's favorite person but that's understandable and easily managed. Scout if good with other dogs, large and small. He is polite with the chihuahua at the dog sitter's house and has been nice with dogs at dog daycare. He does prefer a polite introduction, so isn't a good candidate for a dog park. However, he would be fine living with another polite dog or as an only dog. As for cats, maybe! His trainer has a cat and he has ignored it. Scout lives to play fetch. He also likes frisbee. Scout is a loving, goofy, loyal, playful companion you could ask to meet. Even at 7, he has the energy of a much younger dog when it comes to playing and going for walks, but he will let you sleep in as long as you want in the morning - he puts himself back to bed if you're not ready to get up. He is trained not to go on furniture or beds. Scout is a wonderful adventure companion. He is good on leash and wonderful in the car. When walking in busy neighborhoods, he does prefer to cross the street rather than walk directly past another dog. Scout is truly best friend material. He will play chase and tug with his toys as long as you want. He loves affection - he will put his head into your hand for pets, roll over for belly rubs when you walk up to him, and if you kneel down to his level, he will wrap his whole body into yours for hugs. He is just looking for a home who has no babies and appreciates this breed's special qualities. Scout is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines. He is located in Westwood, CA, and is ready to meet adopters who are able to come here to meet and adopt. A home visit and vet reference are required.
