Meet Bambi - a deeply loving girl looking for the right forever home %A4%8D Bambi is an approximately 60-lb Staffordshire mix with an incredibly loving, affectionate, intelligent personality. She has been with me for about five months after I took her in as an emergency rescue from a kill shelter when her foster was moving out of the country. Bambi has likely experienced instability for much of her early life, and it took several months of living in a safe, consistent environment for us to fully understand her needs. During that time, we have worked extensively with a professional trainer, and she has made tremendous progress. Once Bambi trusts you, she loves deeply. She wants to cuddle, be close to her person, play, learn, explore, and be included in your life. She is remarkably intelligent and can pick up new routines and expectations within just a couple of repetitions. Bambi thrives with structure, predictability, daily physical and mental exercise, affection, and a calm environment. She does best when she has a strong bond with her person and isn't left alone for long periods of time. She does have anxiety and needs a patient, confident adopter who understands fearful or anxious dogs. She can initially be hesitant with strangers, particularly men, and may bark or growl until she feels safe. The best approach is simply giving her space, ignoring her initially, and allowing her to investigate and initiate contact herself. Once she realizes she is safe, a very different, affectionate side of her comes out. Bambi can also be reactive toward reactive dogs and is particularly sensitive around smaller dogs. She has successfully become comfortable around calm dogs when given appropriate time and introductions, but I believe her happiest and most balanced life would be as the only pet in the household. I originally took Bambi in with my partner, but we unexpectedly separated. Caring for her alone has helped me realize that the level of structure, companionship, exercise, and attention she needs to truly thrive is more than I can sustainably provide by myself. This decision isn't because Bambi has failed in any way. In fact, seeing how much progress she has made is exactly why I now understand what kind of life she deserves. There is no deadline for Bambi to leave. She is safe and loved with me, and I will continue caring for her until the right person is found. I am not looking for the quickest home; I am looking for the right home. Ideally, Bambi's person will have experience with anxious or rescue dogs, live a relatively structured and active lifestyle, have plenty of time for her, and be looking for a dog who will form a very close bond with them. Most importantly, I want her next home to be her last. If for any reason an adoption did not work out, I would want Bambi returned to me rather than surrendered, rehomed again, or passed to someone else. Bambi has already overcome so much. With the right person, I truly believe she has everything she needs to continue becoming an incredibly balanced, loyal, loving companion. She deserves someone who sees how special she is and has the lifestyle to give her the stability she's been looking for.
