About Nova

Looking for a forever home for Nova I'm posting on behalf of my friend and roommate, Adele, who is looking for the right home for Nova. Nova is a beautiful black-and-white tuxedo cat estimated to be around 7-8 years old. She was originally found as a stray about two years ago and has been an indoor cat ever since. Unfortunately, because of a change in our housing situation, we can no longer give her and our other cats the separate space they need, so we're hoping to find Nova a quiet, permanent home where she can be comfortable and loved. Nova is very shy around new people so she needs someone who is willing to give her time and patience. In our experience, it takes her about 2-3 weeks to really warm up, but once she does, she is incredibly affectionate. She'll throw herself against you asking for pets, hang out with you on the couch, and happily make biscuits beside you. The biggest thing Nova needs is a pet-free home. She does not get along well with other cats and is very afraid of dogs. She previously lived near a dog whose barking frightened her severely, so a quiet home without other animals would be best for her. Because she takes time to adjust, she would also do best with someone who understands that she may hide or be nervous at first and is willing to let her settle in at her own pace. She's spayed, and vaccinated (last went to the vet in February). In her last visit the vet she had a heart murmur, and heartworm which has since been dealt with She doesn't have a microchip. Without the dogs, she uses the litterbox and has no accidents. Nova has had a difficult couple of years and deserves a home where she can finally feel safe and settled. I'm happy to answer questions and tell you more about her. *** More about Nova's history, for anyone interested: Nova was originally a stray living near an apartment complex about two years ago. Friends had been feeding her and eventually trapped her so she could be spayed and receive veterinary care. Rather than releasing her back outside afterward, she was taken in and became an indoor cat. Unfortunately, her first indoor home eventually became a very stressful environment for her. A nearby dog barked frequently, which frightened her badly, and she began having stress-related accidents. She was eventually kept primarily in one room and was not receiving the attention or care she needed. About eight months ago, Adele was asked to temporarily care for Nova. When she picked her up, Nova was severely underweight and clearly had not been doing well, so Adele decided not to return her to that situation. Since then, Nova has been living with us and has gained stability, attention, and a much safer environment. The problem is that we already have two cats, and Nova does not do well with other animals. We have been able to keep them separated, but our housing situation is changing and we will no longer have enough space to keep everyone separated while still giving each cat a good quality of life. That's why we're trying to find Nova a home that actually fits her needs. Some place quiet, pet-free with someone patient enough to let her build trust at her own pace. We want to find the place where she can stay for the rest of her life.
