WILBUR - 84 POUNDS OF HUSKY, HEART, AND GENTLEMANLY CHARM Upland Animal Shelter - Upland, CA Animal ID: IEPA-A-19601 Breed: Husky Mix Sex: Male Age: 8 years (estimated) Weight: 83.6 lbs Intake Date: August 12, 2026 MEET WILBUR At nearly 84 pounds, Wilbur is a big boy. But spend a little time with him, and what you notice isn't his size. It's how easy it is to enjoy his company. Wilbur is a handsome Husky mix with the heart and manners of a gentleman. He's estimated to be around 8 years old, although he may be a little younger, and he seems to have arrived at the shelter already knowing quite a bit about how to live alongside people. He knows basic commands, including sit and down. He appears to have had some previous training, and his behavior suggests he may already be housetrained. And despite his impressive size, Wilbur walks nicely on leash without much pulling. Once out of his kennel, he enjoys exploring, sniffing, and taking in the world around him. But Wilbur isn't too busy exploring to remember the person at the other end of the leash. He's a social, affectionate boy who genuinely enjoys human companionship. Take him into the play yard and he'll happily wander around investigating his surroundings, then come back to you for affection. Sit down on a bench and don't be surprised if this 84-pound gentleman decides there is room beside you and hops up to join you for some extra attention. Wilbur seems to understand something very important: Adventures are good. But being close to someone you love is even better. And yes, he is a Husky, so occasionally Wilbur has opinions. He's chatty and vocal and isn't afraid to share his thoughts with you. Life with Wilbur may therefore include the occasional Husky commentary on matters he considers important. Wilbur can be sensitive around his head and is still becoming comfortable with having a leash placed over it. He isn't asking for anything complicated - just a patient, gentle person who will respect his comfort and give him a little time. When passing other dogs in their kennels, Wilbur has shown no reactivity. Formal dog testing is still pending, however, so he would need an appropriate introduction before going home with a canine companion. Small animals are another story. Wilbur has a high prey drive and shows interest in chasing them, so he needs a home without cats or other small pets. What Wilbur seems ready for now is wonderfully simple: A comfortable home. Leisurely walks with someone he trusts. A soft place to rest. A person who enjoys a little Husky conversation. And perhaps a spot beside you on the couch or bench, because Wilbur clearly believes that being close to his people is one of life's great pleasures. At 8 years old, Wilbur isn't looking for the beginning of his life. He's looking for the beginning of the part that matters most: The part where he finally belongs. If you're looking for a big, affectionate, well-mannered companion with a gentle spirit and just enough Husky personality to keep life interesting, come meet Wilbur. He may be 84 pounds, but the biggest thing about him might just be his heart. WILBUR AT A GLANCE - Affectionate and social - Walks well on leash - Knows basic commands - Great candidate for a first-time dog owner - Chatty and vocal - No dog reactivity observed; formal testing pending - High prey drive - No cats or small animals - Sensitive around his head; gentle handling recommended For more information about Wilbur: https://www.shelterluv.com/embed/animal/IEPA-A-19601 Transportation is available for rescue organizations.
