This sweet, sweet, boy has lived a tough life earning the nickname 'Truckstop' after YEARS of living as a stray and hanging out at gas stations near the airport in Little Rock. Since moving to the area in 2022, I have always kept my eye out for Truckstop and his girlfriend - a German Shepherd Dog who no one has seen in months. As soon as I realized she was gone I was worried about poor Truckstop. I saw him following other dogs around, venturing away from the gas station to be with a friend again, but then I would see him by himself again, like it didn't work out. I saw him being bullied by another dog that hangs around the area and it made me angry to see. I saw him nearly get run over, which suprised me bc he's survived so long as a stray. I realized he couldn't see well at all. I was glad when Truckstop attached himself to my neighbor's dog bc she was neglected herself and always in my yard. For about three weeks she and Truckstop were inseparable. I felt guilty when I rehomed her and her sister, but they didn't take Truckstop too.. I couldn't deny her a better life though, and it turned out that she was adopted just in time bc she was pregnant! I'm so happy for her, but poor Truckstop was distraught. He howled and howled looking for his new friend. I was so sad for him and eventually convinced him to come inside in the air conditioning. I've now come to know that Truckstop is an extremely well behaved dog, he is even potty trained and has not gone potty inside even ONE TIME, even when I was gone overnight and well into the next day! He has not torn anything up and he does not bother anybody. He is very timid and his vision is bad, but he is very laid back and he doesn't even bark at people when they come in the door. He likes to have his belly rubbed and he sits patiently and waits for me to pet him. He has a broken tail (has since I first saw him in 2022, I always called him the broken tailed dog) and a broken heart, he sometimes still howls at night. I let him out front to potty so he's free to wander but never does. He's tired of that life and he's ready to retire to a loving home!! I've got a house full of foster dogs already, all of them either too hyper or too aggressive to introduce him to. He really deserves a calmer household as he is fearful of fast movements and I can tell it's because he can't see well. I don't know what breed he is, I would guess he's an older dog. His vaccines would be taken care of before adoption. I'm not sure if he's a great candidate for surgery, if the vet says it's safe to neuter then I will pay for that as well.
