Marley is listening on the other side of the door... This precious two-year-old boy is quiet, cautious and happiest observing the world before deciding whether to join it. But when Marley hears people talking nearby, he calls out! Because underneath his shyness is a cat who very much wants connection. Marley came to Bengal Rescue after being seized from an eviction in Washington State and later landing at a farm-animal sanctuary that asked us to help him. We know very little about what came before. What we do know is that Marley is slowly learning that people can be safe. Once he trusts you, he arches into your hand for pets, rubs against you and purrs. He loves his feather wand toy (attached to his human, of course), fuzzy bell ball, climbing his cat trees, puzzle toys and treats. ESPECIALLY treats. Marley loves them enough to occasionally bat one straight out of your hand. His foster says 'we're working on that!' He has huge green eyes, beautiful brown-and-gray spotted markings, and a set of wonderfully silly gray feet. Marley will need a quiet, patient home with someone who understands that trust takes time. Quick movements and too much noise can frighten him, but kindness, predictability and a gentle voice bring out the affectionate little cat underneath. Marley came to us with another cat and unfortunately he instigates some pretty intense confrontations so for this reason, we are nervous to 'announce' that he could get along with another cat in the home. It could simply be their chemistry together - we really don't know. We have to think that if a cat companion who is mellow and slowly introduced, that it could be successful. Marley's new family do not need to have previous Bengal experience, and this could be a wonderful first Bengal-type companion for the right person. His foster told us that her favorite part of caring for Marley has been watching him discover that people can be kind-and that he deserves affection, too. She also says that Marley has a lot of love to give. We think she's right. He just needs someone willing to give him the time to show it.
