Meet Jimi !! **POST UPDATED!** This boy is so sweet and loving. He has a shy side but is doing outstanding with his training. He's going to make a wonderful dog for his new family. A few updates!! He has made friends with the cat in the home, he is great with cats he just takes time to understand other pets are friends. He has also developed a love of anyone playing guitars, he enjoys a chill jam session with his buddies. He really is a special boy! Jimi is almost 3 years old male. He weighs 66 pounds and is full grown. He had DNA done and is a mix of Australian Shepherd, German Shepherd and hound. He is already neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. He is thankfully heartworm negative and on monthly preventions. Jimi was adopted from us as an adorable little puppy. Sadly his family has decided not to keep him anymore so he's come back to us to find a forever home. He has been in a wonderful foster home and he has grown so much!! He has been working hard to overcome his shyness and lack of social skills. He is very smart and doing so well. He has been a very easy houseguest and is learning so quickly. He is wonderful on car rides. He is perfect about crate training. He goes in when asked and sleeps in the crate overnight. He's also done excellent with potty training. He's never had an accident. He pulls on the leash at times but responds well to redirection and training. He's great on a long line leash where he can explore. He's picking up new commands quickly and enjoys training sessions. He's so eager to please and make you happy. He's extremely well behaved. This guy is an old soul for sure. He's such a sweet sensitive guy. He loves to rest his head on your shoulder and be anywhere you are. He can be a bit needy when you're in the room with him, but he can also hang out by himself if you're in a separate room. When you're near him, he likes to put his paw on you to get your attention and make sure that you're giving him all the loving he can get. He is incredibly smart. He picked up place training in one day and can lay on his 'place' bed during dinner. He is so eager to please. He's steadily doing better with everything he's being shown. His foster says he's very polite and easy to have around. Jimi misses out on some important socializing as a pup. He can be reactive toward other dogs on walks (barking and some leash pulling). It's fairly mild and he can be redirected without much trouble. He has lived with another dog before, but it would likely take slow introductions to get him to feel comfortable around a new dog. He would also do excellent for someone wanting one dog and having a fenced yard to avoid seeing other dogs on walks. We think this is mostly based in fear and being unsure of other dogs. When we went to the vet the lobby was very crowded with multiple dogs. We took a straight no stop path through them to the room and he did great. He definitely needs a confident owner to show and teach him that he's safe in these situations. He is fostered with a cat and initially did not do well. He would bark at the cat and chase the cat away etc. After a few weeks he has now realized that the cat is safe and actually a fun friend. They hang out all the time now without issues. With Jimi it just takes him time to figure out new things are safe and okay. If you are willing to give him lots of time to acclimate to new people or pets he seems to figure it out and do well. Jimi is not fostered with children. His previous family said he did good with them, but we have not been able to verify that ourselves. He has a very sweet demeanor so we think he would do good with older kids that can give him space and time to feel safe around them. Also kids respectful enough not treat him like a toy and climb on him etc. He needs a lot of time meeting new people coming in the home so if your family has tons of new kids visiting often it may not be the best fit. He has a lower energy level. He loves a good walk but doesn't require a ton of exercise. He's happy to lay around with you as well. He plays with his toys and enjoys puzzle games and snuggle mats. He also loves to play ball at times. A little attention goes a long way with this sweet boy. Jimi has not shown any issues with sharing his food, treats or toys with people. He's not fostered with other dogs so we are unsure how he would do with that. Overall this guy is going to be a super easy guy for the right setting. He's a sweet soul that wants someone to love him forever. He's very well behaved and ready to find his perfect person or family. Vet and home checks required. Located in Hampton VA.
