About Ivory

Location: Kemp, TX DOB: 03/31/2023 Meet Ivory Ivory is a gorgeous, gentle Great Dane who is learning that life can be safe, comfortable, and full of love. She may be timid at first, but once she begins to trust you, her affectionate personality shines through. She is a classic Dane who loves to lean, cuddle, and be as close to her people as possible. Ivory has already perfected the Dane hug. She will wrap her head over your shoulder, rest her head on your arm or chest, and sometimes stop you in your tracks simply because she needs some attention. She even noses her foster's arm when she wants pets. She is truly a sweetheart. Ivory has a moderate energy level. She enjoys backyard zoomies and playing with her canine friends, but once she's had some exercise, she's perfectly happy relaxing on the couch or porch with her people. She does not require extensive daily exercise to be content. She absolutely loves other dogs and has done well with both large and small dogs, male and female. She is somewhat submissive and responds well to gentle corrections. She has formed a wonderful friendship with her foster's young Great Dane, and a confident canine companion would be a great addition to her future home. Ivory is also cat and chicken friendly. She lives with a cat and now mostly ignores him, and she has been calm and respectful around chickens, choosing to walk away if they get too close. She is fully housetrained, crate trained, walks nicely on a leash, and rides well in the car. She may pull if startled, but otherwise walks beautifully. Ivory's biggest need is time and patience. She is still learning how to confidently navigate life indoors and can be nervous around unfamiliar people, particularly men and young children. Strangers entering the home or yard may cause her to bark or retreat to her crate. When frightened, her instinct is generally to get away rather than confront the situation. Because young children make her particularly nervous, a home with babies or toddlers would not be recommended. Older, respectful children may be appropriate if they understand her need for space and patience. A calm home with limited household traffic would be ideal. Ivory is looking for someone who will allow her to settle in at her own pace and help her build confidence through a consistent routine. Someone who works from home or is home frequently would be wonderful. A canine companion could also help her feel more secure. Ivory may need some time to trust her new family, but once she does, she is going to love them with her whole heart.
