Euphrates is a 6-year-old (born February 2020) border collie/australian shepherd/blue heeler mix, according to the Pennsylvania Amish family from whom we purchased her. At least one of her parents was a working dog. She was brought home around 10 weeks old, shortly after covid lockdown. She did not socialize much with humans outside the family or with other dogs. She did have a trainer with whom we had one-on-one sessions for several months. She had a couple bad experiences with snappy, aggressive dogs and at the vet, but she responds well to training and will warm up to strangers with repeated calm exposure. She is more fetch-motivated than treat-motivated. Euphrates knows sit, stay, paw (shake), drop it, and leave it, though we haven't used the last one in quite a while. She will snap at a stranger who extends a hand as though to pet her. She will react to other dogs if they bark or lunge at her, but can become habituated to them. She has displayed resource guarding with high-value treats such as meat or bones. If bored, she displays tics such as chasing lights or shadows and digging holes. We love this dog and do not really want to see her go, but we do not have the time, space, or energy to give her what she needs right now.
