About Platypus

Hi friends, @followers, & all heroes out there for the dogs that need help. Long Beach Animal Care Services has a happy young #StaffyPuppy named Platypus that recently got some concerning news sent his way & in need of help ASAP! @highlight Platypus is a friendly little 40 pound 8 month olf #StafordshireTerrier mix pup that was picked up by Animal Control Officers on 8/28/26 after being found tied up in front of a residence in #LongBeach. When Platypus arrived it seemed apparent he suffered an old injury to his hind right leg, although he was mostly able to use it to stand & walk around there was little muscle tone paired with a little paw almost half the size of his working leg :( While it was initially believed Platypus just had an old fracture to his leg he likely received as a 5-6 month old puppy, a visit to an off-site clinic revealed Platypus suffered hip fracture many months ago which did not fuse correctly. The badly fused hip joint is causing Platypus several issues which needs to be resolved through FHO/femoral head surgery, in either case the scope of care is beyond what the shelter is able to provide & has placed Platypus with a rescue deadline Platypus has two comments frequently said about him... he has a goofy little swagger because of his smaller-sized leg, and has an upbeat spirit that is downright intoxicating with everyone that has interacted with him or provided medical aid stating 'what a delight' he is to be around. Including me, which is why we all hope Platypus can find help and enjoy many healthy years of spreading that joy even farther.
