Adoption Fee: $50
Australian Cattle Dog
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

Mia - 5-6 Year Old Female Australian Cattle Dog (Blue Heeler) I am looking for the right home for Mia due to changes in my family following my divorce. This is a difficult decision, and my priority is finding a home where she can thrive. Mia is a 5-6-year-old spayed Australian Cattle Dog. She has exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI), which is very well controlled with pancreatic enzyme powder added to each meal. As long as she receives her enzymes with food, she is healthy and does very well. Mia spent much of her life on a farm and would be happiest in a home with room to run. She would likely excel on a farm or ranch with cattle or horses, although she has never had formal cattle dog training. Like many heelers, she has a strong instinct to chase moving animals. She has lived successfully in a home with cats and other dogs. She can be a bit alpha with other dogs but generally does well with proper introductions and clear boundaries. Mia is affectionate and very loyal to her people. One behavior that any potential adopter should know is that she resource guards her crate. If someone she doesn't know approaches her while she is inside the crate, she will bark and act protective. Outside of the crate, she is a sweet, affectionate dog. This behavior is manageable for someone familiar with herding breeds, but I want to be completely transparent so she is placed in the right home. Her ideal home would: Have experience with Australian Cattle Dogs or other working breeds. Provide plenty of exercise, space, and mental stimulation. Understand and be comfortable managing her crate-related resource guarding. Appreciate a loyal, intelligent dog that enjoys having a job to do. This is not an easy decision for me, and I am committed to finding Mia the right forever home rather than simply the first available one. If you think you may be a good fit or know someone who is, please reach out so we can talk.
