About Lafitte

Lafitte is a sweet, 7-year-old, 12-pound Chihuahua mix looking for a very special home where she can be someone's one-and-only companion. She is an affectionate, cuddly little dog who loves having her person to herself. She is happiest in a calm, predictable environment and can be incredibly loving once she trusts you. She has also done well staying in boarding environments, which shows that she is capable of adjusting to new people and surroundings. Lafitte would thrive in an adult-only home where she is the only pet. She does best when she doesn't have to share her space or her person with other animals. She previously lived successfully with an older Goldendoodle who understood and respected her boundaries, but she is not comfortable living with puppies or dogs who are overly interested in her and may growl or lunge when they approach her. She is generally comfortable with strangers when her primary person isn't present. However, she is very bonded to her person and can become protective when someone approaches them. Because of this, she needs an experienced owner who understands her boundaries and is comfortable managing her around visitors. Lafitte is also not a good fit for a home with children. She can become reactive to children who are running or playing and has nipped at clothing in those situations. We have worked with professional trainers to address these behaviors, but ultimately feel that Lafitte would be happier in a home that is better suited to her personality and needs. She is currently staying with family while we work to find her the right permanent home. We are looking for someone who: Is an experienced dog owner Lives in an adult-only household Has no other pets Is comfortable with a dog who is very bonded to her person Appreciates a calm, structured home Is willing to respect her boundaries and allow her time to build trust Lafitte isn't the right dog for everyone, but we truly believe there is someone out there who will adore having a little companion all to themselves. We want to take the time to find that person rather than place her somewhere that isn't a good fit. We are happy to provide veterinary records and answer any questions about her personality, history and needs. Her behavioral history will be disclosed honestly to any serious potential adopter.
