About Sylvia

Adoption Fee: $100
Black Mouth Cur / Beagle
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Sylvia is a Stephens Mountain Cur mix (the rest is mostly farm dog: ACD / collie / basset / beagle) around three years of age. I had adopted her last year under very different circumstances, and I am very sad to be considering rehoming her now. She is sweet as pie, very smart, and knows some commands (sit, lay down, shake, potty cues, etc.) She is up to date on vaccines, flea and tick, and heartworm medication. I have regularly groomed her since adopting her, and she does have some skin sensitivities and does best on a salmon based diet. I have tried beef, lamb, and chicken which all caused her to itch or have minor ear infections. She gets yogurt, pumpkin puree, peanut butter, and banana as treats. Sylvia will need some dental work done. Although a lot of progress has been made, if you have ever met a Cur, you would know how talkative they can be. She loves to let me know what she is thinking and has a very expressive face and voice. Sylvia is also nervous around men and tall people. This is most likely due to her time as a stray before I knew her. She will bark at men upon first meeting them, but some of her favorite people are men!!! I am chopped liver compared to my roommate or best friend, both men. On walks, she can be overly excited towards prey, dogs, and strangers. I have been utilizing both a harness and 'Gentle Leader' with a short leash. Sylvia does well at the dog park, and she has only had issues with one dog in the time that I have had her. She has several dog friends that are all elderly. She has played with dogs nearly five times her weight and puppies no bigger than ten pounds. Sylvia loves my feline (the boss of the house) and enjoys laying with him in the sun and playing. My cat is rather large and does tolerate chasing and light play. A more fearful cat may not appreciate Sylvia's presence. She has met several cats and kittens without any sort of incident. I have never had her around children or babies, but she has done fine with older children and roughhousing teenagers. Sylvia currently lives in a house with a fenced in backyard and goats. Anything smaller would most likely not accommodate her. I have been walking her two miles a day since adoption. We have days where we do less and days where we do more. The goats are a big part of her 'job,' and she enjoys patrolling the yard. If you are looking for a farm dog or high energy pet that enjoys being outside, look no further! Sylvia has changed my life for the better, and I have been very sad to realize that I am no longer able to provide her with her best life. I have taken on a new job and education that is limiting my time with her. It is not an option to reduce my hours or work from home. Heartbroken. Sylvia will come with ten or so toys; a light dog bed/pad (she prefers this to a cushioned one that I had previously bought); Kong harness, fashionable leash/collar, and Gentle Leader; two dog seatbelts; several puzzles and slow feeders; and basic nail clippers. I have a probiotic coat spray that helps with her allergies too. Bowls if you want them. She also has two sweaters that she enjoys in the cold months. If you have gotten to the end and are interested, please send me a message or email. My number is listed, and my email is [email protected] :) Adoption fee is negotiable. I just want her to go to a good home. I have her Embark DNA test too if you are interested in her exact mix!
