About Hanzo

Hanzo is a stunning 4.5 year old, 65-70 pound boy with a heart every bit as big as he is. His mom was a Doberman, and his remarkable rescue story was even featured on The Dodo ( https://fb.watch/ITG-TSGpQA/ ). While his beginning may have been extraordinary, what Hanzo wants most now is something wonderfully ordinary...a family to love for the rest of his life. Hanzo has been raised with children and absolutely adores them, no matter if their 'his kids' or their friends visiting for the day. He's affectionate, playful, and always wants to be involved in whatever the family is doing. Because he's a big, goofy boy who doesn't always realize his own size, he may accidentally bump into or knock over very young children while asking for attention, so he'd do best with older kids who can appreciate his enthusiastic love and anticipate his way of walking and seeking attention. If you're looking for a Velcro dog, you've found him. Hanzo is a stage five clinger in the very best way. He believes personal space is optional and that every activity, from cooking dinner to folding laundry, would be improved with his supervision. If he had opposable thumbs, he'd happily help around the house. His favorite place at the end of the day is curled up in bed with his people, though a person who can help his learn and respect boundaries would be good for him too. Hanzo is house trained, crate trained, and lets you know when he needs to go outside. He rides beautifully in the car and loves tagging along on adventures, making him an excellent travel companion. He enjoys daily walks and walks nicely on leash, though he can become vocal when he sees other dogs. With consistency, structure, and continued training, this is a VERY manageable behavior and one he's capable of improving. He gets along well with other dogs and can happily live with canine companions, but he doesn't depend on them for happiness. He would also be perfectly content as your one and only. At mealtimes, however, Hanzo prefers to dine in his crate because he's convinced everyone else's dinner looks better than his own. Feeding him separately keeps everyone happy and avoids any potential food related squabbles. Hanzo would not be a good fit for a home with cats. He enjoys chasing small critters outside, and it's likely he'd feel the same way about a kitty. He's an alert, attentive dog who will let you know when someone is at the door or when strangers arrive in the home. He has even been camping before, although he tends to take that as an opportunity to watch over you rather than relaxing. Protecting the people he loves is simply part of who he is. One thing you'll quickly learn about Hanzo is that he loves with his whole heart. If you're petting another dog, don't be surprised if he squeezes his way into the middle because, in his mind, affection is meant to be shared (mostly with him). If you come home smelling like another dog, expect a very thorough sniff down before he showers you in kisses Because he's a large, enthusiastic boy who occasionally races down the stairs without realizing someone else might be there, he'd do best with a family that's steady on their feet and doesn't mind the occasional happy hip bump from his big rear end. Hanzo isn't looking for a home that's too busy to give him attention. He's looking for people who want a true companion, someone who will include him in everyday life, take him on walks, laugh at his antics, and let him love them with everything he's got. He's the kind of dog who doesn't just become part of the family, he becomes part of every moment. Once Hanzo loves you, he's all in and he bonds quickly. And if you're lucky enough to earn his heart, you'll have a best friend who's loyal, devoted, endlessly entertaining, and impossible to imagine life without. Est DOB 12/31/2021
