About Booker

Adoption Fee: $50
Bluetick Coonhound
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Hi Everyone! This is Booker, our BlueTick Coonhound. We rescued him from a home-based shelter who had rescued him from a high-kill shelter in KY. The rescue had him neutered. He has been and is currently living in South Jersey since April 2024. Booker is the most loving, non-aggressive, least barking or baying dog we have ever owned. He gets along with children of all ages, never met a person he didn't like, and doesn't seem bothered by other animals, which is why we have tried to make this adoption last as long as we have. He has been happy to meet kids, teens, babies, and adults - male or female. He has a strong hunting drive, but when he trees a squirrel, he stands there and looks at the tree or looks at a person. He doesn't bay. He is a power-chewer, and we only give him shin bones or antlers for his safety. Booker is fully house trained, knows basic commands, but needs a person or family who either works from home or has a very predictable/regimented schedule. A person who leaves him alone in the house multiple times a day would not be a good fit for him. He is on medication for his separation anxiety, and with the medication, we are able to leave once for several hours, without him acting out. We are looking to re-home him at this time for his safety. He has severe separation anxiety and acts out when his humans are not home, which is often since we are a family of 4 and have two teenage daughters. Both my husband and I work out of the home 5 days per week and my daughters are busy with school and activities. His acting out results in harm to himself such as eating things that are not food or escaping and getting hurt on a fence. We have tried several crates, but he is crate aversive and very difficult to get into the crate. Once in the crate, if he doesn't chew it to the point of breaking it, his excessive drooling chips the paint and he gets cut up from the paint/metal chipping. Thank you for taking the time to read our story!
