Age: 2 years, 7 months. Weight: 45 lbs. Intake Date: February 25, 2026. Meet Sabrina. Some dogs make you smile. Sabrina smiles first. Spend just a few minutes with her and you'll understand why she's one of the volunteers' favorites. She moves through life with confidence, curiosity, and joy, making every outing feel like an adventure. One volunteer who knows her well says it best: 'Sabrina is special to me because she is a sweet girl and walks with confidence. She loves to roll and crawl in the grass.' That perfectly describes her. Sabrina absolutely loves toys, especially stuffed ones. She'll chase them, proudly carry them around, cuddle them, and occasionally perform a little 'investigation' to see what's hiding inside the stuffing. Fetch is one of her favorite games, although she prefers to trade one toy for another instead of giving it back. Volunteers simply play with two toys, and everyone has a great time. She isn't possessive-if you reach for the toy, she simply assumes it's time for a game of tug or another throw. Outside the play yard, Sabrina loves exploring the world with her nose. Every walk is an exciting adventure filled with new scents, followed by one of her favorite rewards: rolling happily in the grass and enjoying a few belly rubs. She's also a wonderful walking companion. Sabrina walks beautifully on leash and calmly ignores barking dogs in the kennel area, staying focused on her person instead of the commotion around her. Although her formal dog assessment is still pending, everything we've observed has been encouraging. She has shown no reactivity toward other dogs during shelter walks, neighborhood outings, or park visits, and she usually greets them with calm curiosity. Proper introductions are always recommended, but she may do well with a compatible canine companion. Sabrina is affectionate, intelligent, eager to learn, knows the 'sit' command, walks well on leash, is highly treat motivated, and loves being close to her people. She's playful outdoors but also enjoys relaxing beside you like the lap dog she believes she is. Because she loves energetic games of fetch, we recommend a home with children 13 years or older to avoid accidental bumps during play. At 45 pounds, Sabrina is the perfect medium-sized companion-large enough for adventures, yet easy to live with every day. While she's listed as a German Shepherd Mix, her athletic build, intelligence, and enthusiasm have led several volunteers to wonder if she may have a little Belgian Malinois in her family tree. Whatever her mix, it created an extraordinary dog. If you're looking for a loyal companion who will brighten ordinary days, make you laugh, join you on adventures, and happily relax beside you afterward, Sabrina may be the perfect match.
