We do appreciate your interest in Gussie!! We have a request that will help us so much, when responding will you please use the application at sparrowdogs.com, or begin our correspondence with information about yourself such as home, yard/fence, other pets, family, work hours. Thanks!! We call this big fluffy guy Augustus...he came to us as August was soon to arrive. But, he is not a really formal guy, actually he is kind of silly and goofy, so Gussie fits him just fine. Gussie is about 15 pounds and around 2 years old. He was described as a 'Yorkiepoo'...perhaps, we really do not know. He looks like he could be havanese, perhaps something else, we are not guaranteeing any breed but he appears to be a mix of the more hypoallergenic ones. He had a family that 'abandoned him', not sure what that entailed, but he was no longer with them. Another family took him in for two weeks and then gave him up to a shelter. Such a confusing time for anyone!! Just to be totally transparent, his behavior at the shelter could be a little iffy at times. He had some handling issues, was anxious and defensive and had some resource guarding. For that reason we are looking for dog savvy homes that will help him settle in and understand what he has been thru. With that said, since he has arrived at his foster home he has been a little doll. Being in a shelter can bring out the worst in a dog, they do not know they are safe and being cared for, all they know is they are not home and it is a foreign place. When they get to our foster homes, often it is a 180, they become the dog they really are. BUT....transitioning to a new home may bring some challenges as well, some dog experience, patience and TLC go a long way. OLDER kids will be OK, no littles. Again, with all that being said, Gussie has been a little teddy bear in our home. He is polite, housebroken, happily goes into his crate when we leave or go to bed. He loves carrying around his favorite toys and is getting more and more comfortable running around and playing with the other dogs. But-he will be fine as an only dog, maybe he prefers it that way. He is the sweetest boy ever, he will go out and explore the yard and then have to run back and sit whomsoever feet happen to be joining him in the yard. He is a very scruffy boy today, but going to the beauty parlor...or perhaps barber shop in the morning...will post his new doo. He is such a handsome boy, and his haircut will only accentuate what a cutie he is!! Gussie's adoption fee is $450, please email Kristine at [email protected]
