About Pedro

Pedro is a 5-year-old Corgi/Chihuahua mix with a happy personality, an affectionate heart, and a gentle, easygoing nature. Owner-surrendered through no fault of his own, Pedro is looking for a family that will appreciate his sweet disposition and loving companionship. If you're searching for a loyal little sidekick who enjoys spending time with both people and other pets, Pedro may be your perfect match. Pedro already comes when called by his name and has wonderful leash manners. He only shows mild excitement when he spots other dogs, people, or wildlife such as squirrels and birds, and he responds well to gentle leash guidance and verbal redirection. He is highly food motivated, takes treats gently, and never showed any finger nipping, making him an excellent candidate for continued positive reinforcement training. One of Pedro's greatest strengths is his calm, affectionate temperament. During his behavioral evaluation, he happily accepted being petted and sought out attention from his handlers. He remained relaxed during his teeth examination, allowing his mouth to be checked without struggling. Pedro showed very little interest in toys, preferring affection and human interaction instead. Rather than chasing toys, he'd much rather soak up pets and spend time with his people. Pedro was exceptionally tolerant during his handling assessment. He comfortably allowed his ears, tail, collar, shoulders, and body to be handled. He gently pulled his paws away during foot handling and briefly yelped in surprise when lightly pushed away, but he never showed aggression or concerning behavior. When hugged while someone stood directly over him, he appeared mildly uncomfortable but simply tried to move away appropriately, demonstrating excellent communication and an easygoing personality. Pedro has excellent manners around food and valued items. During his food bowl evaluation, handlers were able to pet him, move his bowl, and reach into it with both a training hand and a real hand while he calmly continued eating without any signs of food guarding. During possession testing, he showed little interest in the item being offered and willingly allowed it to be removed without any concern. According to his previous owner, he may guard food from other dogs, so feeding separately in a multi-dog home would be a simple and appropriate management strategy. He showed no guarding behavior toward people during his evaluation. Pedro is a wonderfully social little dog who genuinely enjoys canine companionship. During his dog-to-dog evaluation, he enthusiastically greeted another dog with relaxed body language and friendly interactions. The two dogs immediately hit it off, seeking affection from one another and displaying playful, social behavior. Based on his evaluation, Pedro is considered likely all-around dog friendly and would likely enjoy having another friendly dog in the home. Pedro also showed excellent promise around cats. During his cat assessment, he politely approached the office cat, greeted her with loose, wagging body language, and quickly disengaged when redirected. He has also met kittens that swatted at him without reacting negatively, simply walking away. Because he has a history of chasing squirrels outdoors, he may occasionally chase a cat running through the yard, but indoors he demonstrated calm, respectful behavior and is considered likely cat friendly with normal supervision and proper introductions. Pedro is searching for a family that will appreciate his affectionate personality, easygoing nature, and wonderful social skills. Whether he's relaxing beside you on the couch, making new canine friends, or quietly enjoying time with the family cat, Pedro is happiest simply being part of the action.
