About Tulip

Tulip is a 1-year-old female Great Pyrenees mix with a sweet, gentle personality and a heart full of love. Surrendered through no fault of her own due to housing issues, Tulip is looking for a family that will give her the stability and affection she deserves. She is a calm, affectionate girl who would much rather spend time with her people than worry about toys or mischief. Tulip is still learning her basic obedience commands, but she's highly food motivated and eager to please, making her an excellent candidate for positive reinforcement training. She takes treats gently with no finger nipping and responds well to gentle leash guidance and redirection. Like many young dogs, she may become excited when she spots people or other dogs during walks, but she redirects easily and settles quickly with her handler. One of Tulip's greatest qualities is her exceptionally gentle nature with people. During her behavioral evaluation, she happily accepted handling all over her body, including her paws, ears, tail, collar, shoulders, and feet. She remained relaxed throughout every handling exercise and clearly enjoyed the attention. During her mouth examination, she briefly tolerated having her lips lifted before gently pulling away after a couple of seconds-not because of fear or aggression, but simply because she preferred being loved on instead. Overall, Tulip demonstrated excellent handling tolerance and a wonderfully trusting personality. Tulip also has outstanding manners around food and valued items. During her food bowl evaluation, handlers were able to pet her, move her bowl, reach into it, and interact with her food using both a training hand and a real hand without any signs of guarding or discomfort. She also willingly allowed valued items to be taken away during possession testing, remaining completely relaxed throughout the exercise. Tulip is much more interested in people than toys. During her evaluation she showed very little interest in playing, instead choosing to seek affection and attention from her handlers. If you're looking for a dog who wants to be your constant companion rather than chase a tennis ball all day, Tulip will happily fill that role. According to her previous owner, Tulip absolutely loves other dogs and has always enjoyed living with canine companions. While her shelter dog evaluation suggested she was most comfortable with calm, submissive dogs, it's very possible that the shelter environment contributed to her responses. Shelters can be overwhelming and stressful, and many dogs behave differently once they're back in a home. Based on her owner's history, Tulip would likely thrive with another friendly dog after a proper introduction. Tulip also has an excellent history with cats. Her previous owner reported that she lived successfully with cats and was wonderful with them, and during her shelter cat evaluation she calmly ignored the office cat, showed no prey drive or fixation, and was easily redirected. She appears to be an excellent candidate for a home with feline companions. Tulip is searching for a family that will appreciate her gentle heart, affectionate personality, and loving nature.
