About Steele

Adoption Fee: $50.00
Pit Bull mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Steele is a 4-year-old neutered Pit Bull with a gentle heart, easygoing personality, and wonderful house manners. Owner-surrendered through no fault of his own, Steele is looking for a family who will appreciate his calm nature and loyal companionship. If you're searching for a relaxed best friend who enjoys being with his people more than anything else, Steele may be the perfect fit. Steele already knows sit, come, leave it, shake, watch me, and off, making him a well-mannered companion who enjoys interacting with people. He walks nicely on leash with only a little initial pulling, responds well to gentle leash guidance, and takes treats politely with no finger nipping. His food motivation makes him an excellent candidate for continued positive reinforcement training. One of Steele's greatest qualities is his calm, affectionate temperament. During his behavioral evaluation, he happily accepted full-body handling, including having his paws, ears, tail, and collar touched. He remained relaxed throughout the assessment, showing only mild, momentary uncertainty when gentle pressure was applied to his shoulders or when someone stood directly over him, but he quickly relaxed and remained comfortable. Overall, he demonstrated an excellent tolerance for handling and clearly enjoys human companionship. Steele also has outstanding manners around food and toys. During his food bowl evaluation, he remained completely comfortable while handlers interacted with his food, showing no signs of guarding or discomfort. He willingly allowed valued items to be taken from him, even directly from his mouth, without any signs of resource guarding or aggression. His easygoing nature makes him a pleasure to work with and live alongside. When meeting other dogs, Steele showed that he prefers a low-key social lifestyle. During his dog-to-dog evaluation, he greeted both dogs politely and remained friendly throughout the interactions. While another dog enthusiastically invited him to play, Steele simply chose to walk away with a polite 'no thanks.' He would likely do best with another calm, respectful dog or as the center of attention in a quieter home. Steele should not be placed in a home with cats. According to his known history, he has a prey drive toward cats and may chase and seriously injure them. For everyone's safety, a cat-free home is required. Steele is looking for a family that will appreciate his calm personality, excellent manners, and loyal companionship. Whether you're relaxing at home, taking leisurely walks, or simply spending quality time together, Steele is happiest by your side. If you're searching for a sweet, well-behaved companion with a loving heart and an easygoing nature, Steele is ready to become your new best friend. https://www.oconeecountyga.gov/forms.aspx?FID=80
