About Maggie

Maggie is a 4-year-old spayed female Dachshund/Terrier mix with a heart as big as her goofy personality! This adorable white-coated girl weighs in at 41 pounds and is full of happy energy, wiggles, and love. She's the kind of dog who can make anyone smile within seconds of meeting her. One of her favorite things to do is sit pretty - especially if treats are involved! Maggie is potty trained, takes treats gently, and has a very sweet, easygoing nature. She walks well on a leash, though she does get excited when she spots a potential new friend - whether they have two legs or four! She may pull toward people or dogs she wants to meet, but she is easily redirected with a simple leash correction and responds well to guidance. She seems to love female dogs and has a dislike for male dogs. This lovable girl was owner surrendered due to her habit of chasing cats in the home. Her previous family had five cats and, with the addition of a newborn baby, they could no longer safely manage keeping everyone separated. Because of this, Maggie would do best in a cat-free home where she can fully relax and thrive. During temperament testing, Maggie showed absolutely no signs of food or toy aggression. Staff were able to handle her food bowl, touch her while eating, and remove both food and toys without issue. She remained relaxed, trusting, and cooperative throughout. She's a social, affectionate dog who genuinely enjoys human interaction and being included in the fun. Maggie appears to prefer female dogs over males, though the shelter environment may simply feel a little overwhelming for her right now. With proper introductions and decompression, her social preferences may continue to develop outside the shelter setting. She walked side by side with a low-key male and she did fantastic!
