About Rizz

Meet Rizz, an 8-month-old Retriever mix with a fun-loving personality and all the potential to become an incredible lifelong companion! As a young stray, Rizz is still learning about the world, but he approaches life with curiosity, enthusiasm, and an eagerness to connect with people. His goofy, happy nature makes him impossible not to love. Rizz already knows sit (especially when treats are involved!) and is highly food motivated, making him an excellent candidate for continued training. He takes treats gently with no finger nipping and responds well to leash guidance and redirection when he becomes distracted. Like many adolescent dogs, he can pull on leash when he spots another dog or something exciting, but his handler was able to redirect him easily, showing that he's willing to learn and eager to work with his person. One of Rizz's biggest strengths is his social nature with people. During his handling assessment, he allowed full-body handling without concern and showed no issues with having his paws, ears, tail, or body touched. He displayed no food guarding or possession aggression, remaining relaxed and comfortable around his food and valued items. His easygoing attitude and food motivation make him an ideal dog for someone interested in continuing positive reinforcement training. Rizz enjoys the company of other dogs but is still learning appropriate social manners. During his dog-to-dog evaluation, he was introduced to a calm, lower-energy dog. Rizz's youthful excitement and high-energy play style-including getting in the other dog's face and placing a paw on him-were initially overwhelming. Once the other dog communicated that he preferred a calmer interaction, Rizz adjusted his behavior and settled down nicely. Because of this, Rizz would do best with calm, patient, low-key, or submissive dogs that can help him continue developing polite canine social skills. Slow introductions to new dogs are recommended. Rizz also showed promising behavior during his cat assessment. He politely approached the cat, sniffed twice, and then chose to walk away each time. He was much more interested in interacting with the people in the room than focusing on the cat and was easily redirected throughout the evaluation. Based on his assessment, Rizz is considered likely cat-friendly, though, as with any new pet introduction, slow, supervised introductions are recommended. Rizz is searching for an active family ready to embrace the fun and energy of puppyhood. With continued training, regular exercise, and plenty of opportunities to learn, this handsome young Retriever mix is sure to blossom into a loyal, well-mannered companion.
