About Kira

Kira is looking for an active human to share adventures with. Kira is a 5-year-old German Shepherd: intelligent, active, and human-focused. She is the kind of dog who wants to participate, learn, and stay close to a person, but for far too long she has been deprived of contact, routine, and meaningful interaction. Even so, she remains a sweet, sensitive dog who is loving and full of zest for life. She responds best to calm, patient, affectionate handling. She was recently diagnosed with pannus (chronic superficial keratitis), a chronic eye condition that requires daily treatment and a life with much less sun exposure than Valencia, Spain offers. I am not the legal owner - I am the neighbour who cares for her day to day (10 months of the year, the owners live in another town). They want to get rid of her, and I have their blessing to help her find a secure home. Kira has had two minor bite incidents in unclear stressful contexts, this coincided with the worsening of her pannus, so may be linked to pain or poor sight. These 'bites' occurred when she was confined with unfamiliar dogs and children. In my company, over the 2 years I've been caring for her, she has never shown aggression towards humans. She can be dominant with other dogs, but not aggressive. When I took her to the vet, she behaved perfectly in the car, and remained calm, friendly and curious throughout walking in a strange town, interacting with strangers, etc. Kira is a 10/10. She needs a home that understands what it means to live with a sensitive, energetic, working-type dog who wants to bond with humans. We are looking for a responsible, committed adopter, ideally in a cooler climate, who can offer her the shade, structure, contact, care, and affection she has been missing for too long. She is chipped and has a passport, so can travel to anywhere in Europe. Her vaccines need updating. She is NOT spayed. The adopter must commit to getting her sterilized.
