About Howdy

Meet Howdy. Howdy is an almost 2 year old, 90 pound German Shepard golden retriever mix. He was adopted from SNIPSA at 6 months old on 1/2/25. During his first few months, he went through puppy training and learned skills such as down, stay, sit, and place. He can walk on a leash, but when he sees other friendly dogs, has trouble staying focused and listening to his human to not tug on the leash. He is very curious and friendly with other dogs. He has had many trainings at a daycare for socialization. When at doggy daycare, he is not able to be in big group play. Due to his playful nature, Howdy struggles in taking cues and corrections from other dogs when they are done playing and/or they don't match his play style. He loves to socialize but continues to need further assist in learning when play time is over with other friends. Howdy is kid and family friendly but does not understand how big he is. When excited upon arrival of the humans at home, he pogo jumps at his gate- jumping repetitively 6 feet in the air until cued to sit and pause before his room door is opened. He runs quickly to get the zoomies out and his big tail wags fiercely, having many times smacked legs of his people or the face of the 2 year old who has learned to run or sit. He is patient when being played with by the toddler but does not always listen to stop or wait when asked. He always meets his people with a friendly face and desire to play and love quickly. He does have the tendency to jump up when meeting new faces, which can be a surprise welcome of 90 pounds for those who are not ready to greet him in that capacity. He is a big chewer of his toys and chew sticks, always greeting you with a toy in his mouth. You will find Howdy with a chew toy around to keep him entertained when near his people. Howdy is able to sleep in a kennel but prefers to not lock the kennel door. He is potty trained; however, he does have access to a dog door all day for ease of in/out throughout the day. Howdy loves to be around people and other dogs. Hence the ask to rehome. Howdy's current owners leave each morning at 6:15AM and arrive home before 5pm. He is now on a twice daily dose of anxiety medication (amitriptyline) because he is home alone all day. He gets very anxious when in the home but not in the same room as others, yearning to be close to humans. Howdy would thrive in an environment where he has a purpose or job to keep him busy throughout the day and in an environment where he is around humans and other dogs consistently. We are hoping to find loving owners and a family who can support and love Howdy in an environment that will give him the life he deserves.
