About Sparkles

This sweet girl is looking for a loving forever home where she can continue to thrive. She's incredibly affectionate, people-oriented, and eager to learn. Since coming into my care, she's made great progress with training and has shown herself to be a smart, loyal companion who loves being close to her people. She is house trained and weighs approximately 80 pounds, though she's slimmed down a bit since leaving the shelter thanks to regular exercise. She is wonderful with children and has never shown any aggression toward them. Because of her size and enthusiasm, she may accidentally intimidate younger children at first, but she's a gentle dog who simply enjoys being around people. She's highly food-motivated, which makes her very trainable. So far, she's learned not to pull on walks and responds to a sit command most of the time. She enjoys learning and does especially well with positive reinforcement, so she'll do well with someone who wants to continue building on the progress she's already made. With other dogs, she's not aggressive, but she can be overly enthusiastic when meeting them. She tends to rush up to other dogs, which can cause more cautious or defensive dogs to react, and she'll sometimes match that energy. She has done well with smaller or more easygoing dogs on walks, but she would benefit from slow introductions and continued socialization. I don't know how she does with cats. She loves being around her people and forms strong bonds with them. She does have some separation anxiety and may whine or bark when left alone, so I think she'd do best in a home where someone is around much of the day or where there are multiple people in the household. She truly enjoys being part of the family. She has seasonal allergies and dry skin, and I'm currently treating a hotspot on one of her hind legs. She also has a small bald patch on her front left leg that appears to have developed before she came into my care, likely related to her skin. These issues have been manageable but are something a future owner should be aware of. Bath time isn't her favorite, and she may need a little encouragement to get into the tub. Once she's in, however, she's calm and cooperative throughout the bath. Like most dogs, she's a little less enthusiastic about being dried afterward. Her recall indoors is good, mostly because she enjoys staying close to her people. Outdoors, especially in larger open spaces, she's still learning and can become distracted by exploring. Because of this, she should remain on leash or in a securely fenced area while her recall continues to improve. Given how treat-motivated she is and how well she responds to training, I think she'll continue making great progress. I'm looking for a home that will give her the love, patience, and continued guidance she deserves. In return, you'll have an incredibly affectionate, loyal companion with a wonderful temperament and so much potential. She has already come a long way and is ready to become someone's devoted best friend.
