About Banks

Yorkie
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Banks came to YROC as an owner surrender after his family shared concerns that he was a resource guarder and aggressive. They did not feel comfortable having him around their four-year-old child, and we knew he deserved the chance to be evaluated in a safe, loving environment. When Banks arrived, it was clear he had been through a lot. His coat was severely matted down to his skin, with sticks, feces, and urine trapped in it. His nails were so overgrown that they had curled back into his paws, causing pain and discomfort. Once we were able to shave him down, we discovered sores on his skin from the neglect he had endured. This was not Banks being 'bad'-this was a dog who was suffering. When he first entered foster care, Banks was frightened. During his first bath, he did bite, but given the painful condition of his coat and the fear he was experiencing, we understood his reaction. Since then, Banks has shown a completely different side. He is settling in, trusting his foster, and is not displaying aggression. In fact his rescuer came to visit and he did the happy dance! We believe much of what was labeled as 'aggression' may have been fear and self-protection. Dogs rely on us to care for their basic needs and to teach children appropriate boundaries and respect for their space. When those boundaries are missing, dogs can unfortunately be misunderstood. Today, Banks is showing his sweet personality as he learns that he is safe. He is looking for a very special adopter who understands that trust takes time and that love, patience, and consistency can change a life. %BD%BD%90%BE Neutered %BD%BD%90%BE Housebroken %BD%BD%90%BE Adult-only home required %BD%BD%90%BE Needs a patient, dog-savvy adopter willing to earn his trust Banks isn't looking for a perfect home-he's looking for someone who will see the scared, hurt dog underneath and give him the chance to finally feel safe.
