BENTLEY: THE DOG WHO TRAINS HUMANS... IS STILL WAITING FOR HIS OWN HOME. Bentley doesn't just help dogs find homes... he helps people become better volunteers. At Upland Animal Shelter, every new volunteer eventually meets a very special teacher. His name is Bentley. Before volunteers ever begin walking the shelter dogs on their own, they spend time learning with Bentley. He patiently waits while nervous hands learn how to safely open a kennel door, clip on a leash, walk through the shelter, enjoy time in the play yard, and build confidence around dogs. After mentoring countless new volunteers, Bentley has earned a title that fits him perfectly: Mentor Assistant. That tells you almost everything you need to know about his character. Bentley is the dog we trust to help people learn. He's calm. Patient. Confident without being pushy. Forgiving of beginner mistakes. The kind of dog who quietly says, 'Don't worry... you've got this.' And because of Bentley, those volunteers go on to help hundreds of other shelter dogs. Now it's Bentley's turn to have someone help him. This handsome 4-year-old Siberian Husky weighs 49 pounds and has the perfect balance of independence and affection. Like many Huskies, he enjoys having his own space, but once he trusts you, he's wonderfully social and genuinely enjoys being with his people. Volunteers describe him as friendly, easy to walk, calm, confident, affectionate, and surprisingly quiet. He rarely barks, walks beautifully on leash, already knows 'sit,' and is eager to learn even more, especially if treats are involved. If there's water nearby, Bentley is all in. Splashing, cooling off, or simply enjoying the moment, he's happiest when he gets to have a little fun. He can be a little reserved when meeting someone new, but don't mistake that for aloofness. Give him a little patience and you'll discover a sweet, loyal companion whose trust feels truly earned. Bentley has done well with many dogs at the shelter, though he can be selective about his canine friends. He should not live with cats, as he has shown prey drive toward them during walks. What Bentley wants isn't extraordinary. A home with regular walks. A family that appreciates his thoughtful, easygoing personality. Someone who understands that the best friendships sometimes begin quietly and grow stronger every day. For months, Bentley has helped countless volunteers become more confident so they could better serve the shelter dogs around him. Now we're hoping someone will choose to be his mentor, the person who shows him that his shelter days are finally over and that he has a family of his own. Bentley has spent enough time teaching others. It's finally time for someone to teach him what forever feels like. BENTLEY: Upland Animal Shelter - Upland, California.
