About Keira

BIOGRAPHY: Keira is a big puddle of love. She is an ~8 year old, 95 lb. mastiff/pitty mix. She was originally surrendered by an unknown owner in mid-2025, with signs of neglect and abuse. Since then, she has blossomed from a shy and traumatized dog into an affection-loving, goofy and playful dog who spends 85% of her time lounging around wanting pets and the remaining 15% wanting to go for walks and to leap around and play with her rope toys with her human family. She is looking for a forever home with people who love to give affection and pets, and who are patient and understand that she can be a little shy and slow to grow comfortable and confident. Once she grows comfortable and bonds, there's no dog in the world who is more loyal and loving. ALLERGIES/MEDICAL: Keira has some food allergies resulting from her previous neglect. We can provide her allergy panel to any prospective new family! BEHAVIORAL INFO: Keira is an affectional couch potato who likes to get her residual energy out a couple times a day with walks, play or goofing around on her own (she loves to chase her tail outdoors). She has been great with all dogs and cats she's been around, sometimes she simply ignores them and sometimes she's curious or playful. As an older dog, she has a sleep startle reflex. She should be approached carefully and gently when asleep, and woken with voice instead of touch. Her startle reflex has resulted in a bite for someone who was unaware of it. Because of her startle reflex, she shouldn't go to a home with children under the age of ~10 - any children in her prospective home should be old enough to understand and follow instructions to not disturb her when she is asleep.
